Ward Steenson Park in Carrollton

Location: 2050 E. Jackson Road, Carrollton. East of Josey Lane and north of Keller Springs Road. The park is easy to spot from the street.

Why it’s noteworthy: This is your basic community park, without any bells and whistles. There are two play structures for older and younger kids, with age appropriate climbing equipment, and kids will love the variety of slides the park offers. It’s a great park if you live in the area and want to get your kiddos out of the house but not worth the drive if you don’t live nearby.

Extras: There is a full basketball court, a covered pavilion, water fountains, benches and a quarter-mile walking trail that leads to the city’s Purple Trail.

Safety: The equipment is free of any cracks, broken or missing parts. Children are easily viewed anywhere on the playground, and fresh bark covers the ground to help soften any tumbles. Ward Steenson Park is clean and well maintained. It scored a 22 out of 24 on the Safety Report Card, giving it an overall grade of A*.
