Kids with scientific minds can party to their heart’s content with a birthday celebration at the new Sci-Tech Discovery Center in Frisco. With fun experiments, hands-on exhibits and more, this party venue has plenty to offer budding geniuses.
North Texas mom Ann Shannon Hassell knew it was just the spot for her son Tristan’s 7th birthday. She and her 16-year-old daughter had volunteered at Sci-Tech and seen the venue’s birthday parties firsthand, so she knew exactly what Sci-Tech had in store for Tristan and his 20 or so best pals.
“Everybody had a great time; Tristan had a blast,” Hassell says.
The party included a scientific craft: making two kinds of slime (which the kids got to take home!). Sci-Tech provided several “lab assistants” who were in charge of keeping the party guests engaged.
“The girls who were leading the party were so attentive, and they were really helpful,” Hassell says. “And they really let the kids be hands on with everything and made it so fun.”
The kids also got to explore Sci-Tech’s current exhibit, Grossology: The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body, which gives kids an up-close and hands-on look at all things human. The exhibit includes a 30-foot model of the digestive system that kids can climb on and a climbing wall of human “skin” with warts, hair and more.
“The kids loved the exhibit,” Hassell says. “We couldn’t get them out of there when it was time to go home!”
Sci-Tech parties are scheduled in two-hour blocks on Saturdays and Sundays (weekdays are available on request) and accommodate up to 12 children and six adults. Additional kids can be added at $10 each, up to 24 people total. The $225 party package includes use of a party room, paper goods, drinks (either water or juice boxes), a staff member to help with party arrangements, postcard invitations, admission to the current exhibit and a scientific demonstration with a take-home activity. Hassell says all she had to provide was the cake—and she didn’t even worry about goody bags.
“The boys were so happy with the slime they didn’t mind that we didn’t do any goodie bags,” she says. dc
