Amber has delivered all three of my children. With my oldest, we had a scare with what she would describe as the worst shoulder dystocia of her career. When the on-call OB/GYN did not receive her call, she acted quickly and calmly to resolve the dystocia. I genuinely believe she saved my child’s life and prevented injuries that would’ve affected her entire life. She then walked with me through two other pregnancies. She balanced a concern for the situation with a calming presence that allowed me to make my own educated decision decisions. Amber does a beautiful job of balancing the need for medical intervention when it arises, while also allowing space for the chance for mothers to have no intervention if it’s not. She is strong enough to explain the truth of difficult situations, compassionate enough to help us when we are overwhelmed, and brave and levelheaded enough to help us in emergencies. I planned to have a natural birth with my first child, but ended up having to schedule a c-section because of some health complications. I was beyond devastated and my midwife, Amber Castleberry, took the time to decorate our hospital room the night before we showed up. She did a balloon arch, twinkle lights, streamers hanging from the ceiling, and a handwritten note waiting for me on my hospital bed.
