Vibe: The Purple Cow is a good, old-fashioned soda fountain…the sort that has almost all but died out. With its fun, retro décor, kids can “converse” at the top of their lungs over classic 1950s tunes, and the only things missing are waitresses on roller skates.
Why it's tot-friendly: This place was made for kids, big and little. With its emphasis on ice cream, milk shakes and burgers, you know your little ones are going to light up at the mention of its name.
Be sure to try: A Purple Cow, of course. An ice cream float with grape soda and special, purple vanilla ice cream is a colorful crowd pleaser. Additionally, there’s nothing better than a classic grilled cheese and a milk shake.
Good to know: Kids can get creative by crafting their own sundaes. You pick the ice cream(s), the sauce(s), and the toppings, and you have a bona fide feast. PS—Mom and dad can order “adult shakes” with a 1-oz. shot of some premium liqueurs. Amaretto, anyone?
Best times to go with kids: Lunch times are busy, especially in the summer, but The Cow is great for large, raucous parties of families and multiple kids. Drop by for a mid-afternoon snack as a special treat. You’re likely to get a prime seat at the counter.
