Vibe: This is not your average house of flapjacks. The Original Pancake house comes to us from Portland, Oregon, where, presumably, woodsmen and lumberjacks need big, hearty breakfasts to keep up their strength. Maybe, maybe not, but these pancakes are crowd-pleasers. The vibe is homestyle, with only the finest ingredients — and the proof is in the pancakes.
Why it’s tot-friendly: Kids love breakfast foods, especially the idea of funny face pancakes. Original Pancake House offers that smiling creation and more fruity crepes and fancy Swedish pancakes.
Be sure to try: The apple pancake and the Dutch Baby (lemon pancake with powdered sugar) are the flagship flapjacks of this institution. Both can feed at least two.
Good to know: According to the menu, both of these pancakes require about 30 minutes to prepare. They usually don’t, but be prepared, especially on busy mornings.
Best times to go with kids: Original Pancake House opens early, but closes early too. Make sure you get there by noon to leave plenty of time for a relaxing breakfast (and ample time to wait for your Dutch Baby).
