Shelby Jacob, M.D., chose pediatrics because it’s the perfect combination of everything she enjoys. Pediatrics brings together the science of medicine, the art of communication and the love of creating lasting and meaningful relationships with families in the community. “Especially in the age of technology, the opportunity to be a trusted resource for evidence based recommendations is a privilege and honor that I take very seriously.” Dr. Jacob says. “I love my patients, I really do. I think about them, care for them and treat them as I would my own children.”?

Dr. Jacob graduated with honors from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska and then returned home to Chicago to complete her medical degree and pediatric residency training at Rush University Medical Center. After completing her final year as Chief Resident, she relocated to her husband’s hometown of Dallas to be closer to family.

She came to Cook Children’s in 2015 after spending six years as an assistant professor of pediatrics teaching medical students and pediatric residents at UT Southwestern and Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Jacob continues to use her passion for teaching to assist parents and caregivers to help raise healthy and happy children. She enjoys discussing normal growth and development, safety, nutrition and current recommendations with families. She is board certified and fluent in English, Spanish and Malayalam.

Dr. Jacob lives in Keller, is married and has three young, active daughters of her own who have taught her more about compassion, listening and the importance of empathy in pediatrics than any textbook could have. Dr. Jacob enjoys trying new restaurants, planning vacations, reading books and spending quality time with family and friends.
