Save the dates to visit these pick-your-own-flower farms and gorgeous gardens

In this article:

With spring just around the corner, flowers are on our mind. We all know to keep an eye out for bluebonnets, our gorgeous state flower, but have you thought about spring’s other favorite flower? Tulips are about to make their short-lived but glorious debut—and lucky for us here in North Texas, there are a few spots to find them.

You-Pick Tulip Farms in North Texas

Texas-Tulips

The drive up to this pick-your-own flower farm about an hour north of Dallas is well worth the miles. Husband and wife team Pieter and Petra Koeman opened this flower farm in 2015 after moving to Dallas from the Netherlands, a country long famous for its tulip industry. And with their expertise have since turned Texas Tulips into the annual must-do day trip for North Texans.

In a typical season, the farm stays open for around four weeks before selling out. The wide rows of tulips feature about 100 varieties you can walk to pick your favorites. Bring your own basket or pick one up to use while you’re there. Plus the kids can explore the hay maze.

Hemingway Hill

This locally-owned flower farm and Christmas tree farm about 40 miles east of Dallas first opened in 2021 (you might have seen their trees and wreaths at the Dallas Farmers Market) and is now open for its second-ever tulip season. Its Tulipville stars more than 40,000 bulbs from Holland.

Come walk the rows of blooms and pick your fill of flowers by hand (no shears needed) and fill them in a borrowed vintage buckets. They’ll wrap them up for you and even, if you’re a little dirty from the fields, give you (free) paper mats for your car ride home. Ask about the complimentary stickers for kids too.

And no need to pack your own snacks for a trip here. They offer homemade, warm apple cider donuts and kettle corn, so feel free to sit at the picnic tables, and play some games while you’re running around the fields.
