For some moms, the frustrations felt over trying to make sense of that adorable toddler gibberish is just deepened as their children get older—because for some kids, communication doesn’t clear up as a reward for their efforts. Now, with a few taps of your finger and the turn of your wrist, you can put words on the lips of those who can’t speak—figuratively, at least. A new application, the Grace App, allows your child to build sentences from relevant images. Designed for and by nonverbal people, the app works in real-time, allowing the child to select his or her preferences, arrange appropriate images in an order they comprehend, rotate the device (iPhone, iPod or iPad) and present a full sentence to the listener, who can then read and respond. The beauty of the app? It helps kids make that connection between “communication” and other people, says Steven Troughton-Smith, designer of the app. Download it from iTunes for $37.99.
