North Dallas Mothers of Twins Club

Life is busy enough with one child. But with multiples, it’s, well, multiplied. The North Dallas Mothers of Twins Club, which was formed in 1973, aims to help moms of multiples come together for some grown-up conversation and a forum for airing out the day-to-day stresses, questions and concerns of taking care of little ones.

Club president Jessica Vasquez, whose twins Alexis and Aidan are 3 years old, says the group has 239 full members and 41 “stork members,” moms-to-be who are pregnant with multiples. They meet as a group once per month and also host a monthly mom’s night out, playgroups, new mom’s forums and more. Then there’s the annual Spring Picnic, Fall Festival and Holiday Party, all geared toward letting moms – and their multiples – socialize.

→ The group’s biggest – and most well known – event is our Twice as Nice semi-annual sale. The sale is held in both spring and fall at the Richardson Civic Center. Club membership is not required to shop, only to consign. The general public is offered more than 20,000 gently used baby, kid and teen items from clothes, toys and shoes to books, bikes, DVDs and more. This is a huge sale and it’s definitely worth taking a look at.

Our annual live/silent auction is a huge event that takes place in the first part of May and is open to the public. This event helps to raise the funds to support our club and our club’s community outreach efforts. We also have a Spring Picnic, Fall Festival and Holiday Party each year for our members and their families.

→ We have our monthly meetings, including a new mom’s forum, the first Thursday of each month. We also have Mom’s Night Out and group playdates on a monthly basis.

Anyone who is expecting multiples or currently the mother of multiples (of any age) is more than welcome to join us at our next meeting. Our membership team would be happy to answer questions and/or assist in the membership process. And our Web site [www.ndmotc.org] is full of information regarding upcoming meetings, along with contact information for our board members who are here to assist as well.

→ Our annual club dues are $35 for full membership. A stork mom – someone currently pregnant and expecting multiples – can join for $10 and pay the difference to convert to full membership within 90 days of delivering her multiples.

→ My favorite part about being involved with the club is the amazing moms that I have the pleasure of being associated with. My boy/girl twins are 3 years old, and I just can’t imagine having made it this far – with what little sanity I have left – without the extraordinary advice and support that I have received from the members of this wonderful organization.
