Dean Fearing's Simple Southwest Dish

Chef and father of two boys — Jaxon, 11, and Campbell, 9 — Dean Fearing blazes a balance between his demanding schedule at his restaurant, Fearing’s, and parenthood, a role he shares with wife Lynae. Known to many as the “father of Southwestern cuisine,” Fearing shares a family favorite and signature Fearing’s dish: the Barbecue Shrimp Taco.

“Tacos are just fun to eat for kids. They love the crunch,” says Fearing. “A recipe is just a guideline … it’s especially fun for kids to add their own flavors or personality to meals that you create as a family.”

The family of four enjoys the fare of their father’s restaurant on a weekly basis. “My kids like the typical kid-friendly foods, like quick and easy migas, waffles and pancakes. My sons are the best egg crackers in town,” Fearing laughs.
