A Day in the Life of Mindy Ford

2:30am Woken up by Kinsley crying. Think to myself maybe she will stop on her own and I won’t have to get up and give her a bottle. Or wait! Is she crying? No. False alarm. Drift back to sleep.

5:45am Mike’s alarm goes off. I realize he is not in bed and he must have fallen asleep on the couch after working off-duty last night. I am interrupted in my empathy for him having to sleep on the couch by that awful song that is still going off on his alarm. I jump out of bed to hit “snooze” before it wakes up the kids.

5:47am Crawl back into bed. Note that
his alarm went off a full hour before he needs to be up. Think about how he is so going to hear about this and drift back to sleep.

6:45am Kinsley starts banging on the wall letting me know she is up.

6:47am OK, OK! Kinsley I hear you! Get up for the day. Get Kinsley up. Kiss Mike and tell him it’s time for him to get up. Change Kinsley’s diaper and put her in her highchair for breakfast.

7am Wake Colby up by smothering him with kisses. He doesn’t respond to my sweet kisses, so I flip his light on. He hates that, but he gets up and starts his morning routine.

7:03am Look at Mike sleeping soundly. I feel awful because he didn’t get home until 12:15am. He’s working shifts off-duty so I can stay home and finish school. Remind myself how lucky I am.

7:05am Kiss Mike again and tell him that if he doesn’t get up he will be late for work. He mumbles at me but gets up.

7:15am Kinsley is screaming for breakfast. Oops! I forgot that part after I put her in her chair; I knew I was forgetting something.

7:20am Kiss Colby goodbye. Kiss Mike goodbye and remind him to be careful.

7:25am Finally feed Kinsley breakfast.

8am Shower and get dressed for the day.

9:15am Drop Kinsley off at the sitters. She is screaming. I hate that, but I know she is in good hands and I remind myself this is just a phase she is going through.

9:45am Get in my car to head to school.

10am Arrive at school and wonder to myself what the heck I’m doing here. Resist the urge to blow school off and go pick up my crying baby.

10:10am-12:10pm Sit through English, as the professor talks about our upcoming papers due. She reminds us not to use “texting short hand” like “LOL” and “OMG” (thank goodness she reminded me); try to remember why I am here again (struggling with that).

12:20-1:40pm Anatomy class (this is where I do my best mental multi-tasking). Try to focus on the digestive system but … wait … darn, I forgot to set something out for dinner. I guess I will stop by the store when I get out of class. Hmm, what to cook?

2:30pm Pick up Kinsley and thank the sitter. She was happy to see me, but not nearly as happy as I was to see her. Go home.

3:15pm Colby gets home from school. He was also happy to see me, and, again, not nearly as happy as I was to see him. Kinsley wants a snack. Put her in her highchair and actually remember to feed her. Colby brings me his backpack and we go over homework.

4:20pm Realize that Mike will be home soon, and the house is a wreck. I look at it and wonder how it got this way because I cleaned it top-to-bottom the weekend before; I miss working for a split second because when I was working we could afford to have the house professionally cleaned.

4:25pm Close my eyes, wiggle my nose and hope really hard for a cleaning genie.

4:26pm Interrupted in my wishing by Kinsley screaming to get out of her chair. Change her diaper and give the genie five more minutes to show up.

4:45pm Oops! I forgot to go to the store. Run to the fridge and see what we have. Looks like Hamburger Helper or pizza … again.

5pm My cleaning genie must have gotten lost. I throw clean laundry back into the dryer, and start it; for some reason I feel like I have more time to do it with the dryer on (don’t judge me). Clean the living room super quick and clean the countertops in the kitchen.

5:46pm Mike gets home and is happy to see me, but, again, not nearly as happy as I was to see him.

6pm Dinner. Bath and PJs for Kinsley.

6:30-7:30pm Playtime as family

7:30pm Kiss Kinsley goodnight. Listen to her in her bed beating on the wall.

8pm Kiss Colby goodnight. Start working on my English homework, luckily the assignment is over verbs and I helped Colby with his verb homework earlier in the day. (Why am I going back to school?)

9pm Crawl into bed. I know it’s only nine, but I’m exhausted. Wiggle my nose one more time, in hopes the cleaning genie shows up while I’m sleeping.

2:30am Woken up by Kinsley crying. Nope, another false alarm.
