5 Things You Can't Miss This Weekend at Austin City Limits
-
Hip Hop Workshop: A big hit at other festivals such as Kidzapalooza (aka Lollapalooza) and Hangout Fest, your littles learn how to beatbox, rhyme and scratch. In addition to gaining street cred in the first grade set, your mini rap mogul can even lay down a track and take it home to show his future fans and friends.
-
DrumZone: Drums may be banned from your home for the obvious reasons (too much of a good thing can easily get on parents’ nerves), so let them pound it out with Michael Marcionetti who’ll play games in the percussion department. Maybe it will even make their beats sweeter at home.
-
Atoms for Peace: One of our favorite supergroups combines Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich and Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist extraordinaire, Flea. This one is for the parents as Thom has been known to drop an f-bomb or two while chatting up the crowd. Trust us on this one, you want to drop everything and run, not walk, to their set at 7:40pm Sunday at the Lady Bird stage.
-
Tame Impala: The band hails from Australia but has a decidedly easy breezy psychedelic vibe. They played at Coachella in April and have made a couple rounds through Texas. It’s definitely a show worth chilling out to at 6:30pm at the Honda stage.
-
Wilco: A perennial favorite across the nation, the ever-touring band from Chicago, Wilco, has lasted through thick and thin. Frontman and founding member Jeff Tweedy doesn’t seem to do the same show twice, so be prepared for a one-of-a-kind performance. Go online to their website, wilcoworld.net, to request a song for them to play Saturday night. They go on at 6pm on the Samsung Galaxy stage, and if you’re up for it, stay for Kings of Leon up next.
