Winniford Park Playground in McKinney

Winniford Park, located off the busy Lake Forest Drive in McKinney, is a fun spot to spend a sunny afternoon, but the park’s playscape, which earned a B on DallasChild’s Safety Report Card,* could use some updating.

The small playscape offers several slides, including a tall and twisty and short and sweet, and plenty of space for climbing (including a metal ladder and a corkscrew-shaped feature). Two swings — one for bigger kids and one for babies — are also available, along with plenty of shady benches and a covered gazebo. But parents should be wary of several roots popping up from under the playscape’s mulch floor that could easily trip up little runners.

Perhaps the park’s best feature is a cool stream running past the playscape and into a large pond with a fountain. It would be a perfect spot for little boat (or rubber ducky) races!

This review was distributed to McKinney Parks and Recreation for further review and/or action.
