Location: 6479 Park St., Dallas, off University Boulevard and Park Street next to Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Parking is available in a lot between the church and the playground.
What makes it noteworthy: No more unloading shoes full of wood chips — with a newly poured rubber surface, this playground is now splinter-free. The city also recently expanded the playground’s age range, adding a second play structure for ages 5–12 to supplement the preexisting equipment for younger kiddos. The lengthy new structure offers a variety of safe climbing opportunities, as well as a bridge with protective guardrails. While there are only two swings, one is an adaptive chair swing for kids who need a safety belt or extra back support.
Extras: Benches and tables scattered throughout the shaded playground give your feet a rest while also providing excellent visibility to both areas of the playground. Paved walking trails are accessible with stroller in tow, and tennis courts are available by reservation.
Safety: This playground received a low A* on the Playground Safety Report Card. Keep in mind that it’s off a busy street, and construction is in progress on the adjacent lot; however, fences and a slight incline separate the playground from the street.
