Kimberly Thaggard, mom of two and the western director for iTeach US, lives in the Montecito area of Denton. She shares her family’s favorite spots to eat out, hang out and chill out. Check it out!
Favorite family restaurant: Keiichi. Keiichi is a small sushi bar and Japanese steakhouse in Denton that seats only 20 people at a time in its three serving areas. Its reservations have become a hot commodity since COVID-19 restrictions were lightened in our area. The chef is both world-class and incredibly personable. He has become like family over the many years we have eaten there. 500 N. Elm St., Denton; 940/230-3410
Favorite local green space: The Greenbelt is just beautiful. Whether you want to ride your bike, or just enjoy a nice picnic in the outdoors, the trails and trees make it feel like you are eons away from the city. Access the trail from FM 455, FM 428 or US 380.
Favorite family outing: When we are not at the soccer fields with our oldest, we like to head to downtown Denton to enjoy the Denton Square. Twilight Tunes are back every Thursday Night and they invite folks to sit under the historic oak trees, listen to live music and enjoy one of the local square eateries. If you can, pre-order a board from Suzanne at The Chestnut Tree and bring it with you to set out on your picnic blanket during the show. Denton Square, 110 W. Hickory St., Denton; The Chestnut Tree, 107 W. Hickory St., Denton; 940/591-9475
Go-to girls’ night spot: Miss Angeline’s is a fantastic spot for girls’ night. It has cold, hand-crafted cocktails on tap and a beautiful patio with views of the downtown murals and our cherished courthouse. 125 E. Oak St., Denton; 940/800-8090
For self-care: Studio One is a one-stop shop for hair stylists, facialists and colorists. The family uses services by Kitty Kelley (colorist and stylist), Dawn Marchand (colorist and stylist) and Collier Hancock (aesthetician/facialist). They all do an amazing job keeping our family looking great and feeling relaxed. 2735 Wind River Lane, Suite 150, Denton; 940/387-0088
Get active: Our family gets really active at Denton Country Club. Whether playing golf, tennis, or attending one of the many food and wine events, you can usually find us there on the weekends. 1213 Country Club Road, Argyle; 940/464-0077
Cool off: In Denton you cannot go wrong with Beth Marie’s Old Fashion Ice Cream, or an organic fruit pop from Gnome Cones. Both are located on the Denton Square and provide a range of delicious frozen treats. Whether you want a good ole banana split or an all-natural snow cone, you can find it at one of these stops. Beth Marie’s Old Fashion Ice Cream, 117 W. Hickory St., Denton; 940/384-1818; 2900 Wind River Lane, Suite 148, Denton; 940/591-1010; Gnome Cones, 205 N. Elm St., Denton; 940/320-7772; 421 US 377 S., Argyle; 940/299-2663

Why Denton is a great place to raise a family: Weston and I both grew up in the southeastern part of the country where neighbors were friendly, and community bonds were strong. Denton reminds us of these places. You can always find a friendly face and an honest soul in Denton, Texas. We love it here.
