Hayley Hangartner calls Lucas “our little slice of paradise just outside of city life.” Most houses here sit on at least half an acre, and you won’t find retail stores. What you will find is a warm, tight-knit community; proximity to bustling areas; and a great place to raise kiddos. It’s where Hangartner, a stay-at-home mom and children’s author, and husband Jerod (who works in commercial real estate) live with Davis, 8, Hattie Lu, 6, and Holt, 2.
Favorite Family Restaurant: Goodfella’s Pizza! They have the best authentic pizza around. The owner of the restaurant knows us by name and is always offering a friendly smile and free house-made rolls when we come in. 2260 N. Country Club Road, Suite 107, Wylie; 972/941-8167
Best Park: Lucas Community Park. Not only does this park have a sweet playground, but there is also a covered area to host parties, cookouts and playgroups. This is where the Lucas Farmer’s Market is held each month. All local vendors are encouraged to come and showcase their goods and produce. The kids love to buy homemade dog treats and local honey. And each year at Christmas, this park is home to the Lucas Tree Lighting Spectacular that features an outdoor ice-skating rink. Founder’s Day is also a community favorite that is celebrated here. 665 Country Club Road, Lucas; 972/727-8999
Favorite Family Outing: We love going to North Texas Equestrian Center, the horse stables next to our neighborhood, and walking through and seeing all of the beautiful horses. They have a seating area as well where we watch the horses jump and practice their runs. The kids’ favorite horse is Midas! 1765 Southview Drive, Wylie; 972/442-7544
Go-To for Going Out: My husband and I have two favorite spots that are not in Lucas-Fairview, but are minutes down the road. Bonefish Grill has excellent service paired with exquisite seafood that is authentic and fresh. Mio Nonno is Italian at its finest. My husband and I love to sit down for a glass of wine that our waiter pairs with the special of the day. The restaurant serves classic food in a laid-back setting with a rustic twist. For girls’ night, it’s Gloria’s at Fairview Town Center. Margaritas on the patio are a must! Bonefish Grill, 190 E. Stacy Road, Suite 100, Allen; 972/737-3019; Mio Nonno, 939 W. Stacy Road, Suite 160, Allen; 214/383-6661; Gloria’s Latin Cuisine, 152 Fountain Court, Fairview; 972/549-4031
Self-Care Spot: Hello Gorgeous in Fairview Town Center. You can have it all, from a facial or fresh cut all the way to a relaxing massage. They also have amazing skin care products to indulge in. 111 Fountain Court, Fairview; 972/549-4249
Where They Get Active: My husband and son enjoy riding their mountain bikes along the Trinity Trail. It covers a significant area of Lucas, and you can even stop at one the boat docks at Lake Lavon. This is a horse trail, but you’ll also see bikes, dogs and joggers. It’s stunning. Multiple locations
How They Give Back: We are members of Grace Church. Our church has an Allen address but sits on the edge of Lucas. It has many wonderful outreach events for the community that bring others in and provide a safe and fun atmosphere for all: Easter egg hunts, Food Truck Friday, Trunk or Treat, concerts, and Movie on the Lawn. We also are happy to give frequently to the Children’s Advocacy Center in Lucas. They have a donation center where they graciously accept clothing donations and other household items. Grace Church, 2005 Estates Parkway, Allen; 972/727-4512; Children’s Advocacy Center Donation Center, 995 W. Lucas Road, Suite 300, Lucas; 972/509-1412
Why Her Neighborhood is Great for Families: Our neighborhood, Seis Lagos, is an absolute gem. We have six lakes, a large clubhouse, four pools, tennis courts, fishing docks and the friendliest neighbors around! You will see kids riding bikes, golf carts driving by and families feeding ducks. There is one entrance in and one out, with a security officer on duty seven days a week, 24 hours a day. The safety this provides is peaceful and appreciated. We are very blessed to be a part of this sweet community. Seis Lagos Community Services Association, 224 Seis Lagos Trail, Wylie; 972/442-3000
How She Met Her Mom Friends: When I moved to Lucas, I joined the Lovejoy Preschool Parent Teacher Organization to meet other moms whose children would be going into the Lovejoy Independent School District. It was a loving and welcoming group that hosted playdates and mom’s night out.
