Although this Plano building was originally a bridle shop, the current tenant doesn’t horse around with their pizza. Urban Crust pizza in historic downtown Plano offers an all-inclusive family experience with delicious bites everyone will enjoy.
Situated off the very walkable, brick-paved 15th Street, this 2-year-old pizzeria sits near a children’s park, and many shops, making it a great place to end up with the kids after a full day of shopping and playing around this small-town-vibe area.
Staying true to the building’s history, diners are greeted with an oversized chandelier upon arrival, made of horsewhips and decadent light fixtures. Large historic images of the building line the wall, interspersed with flat screens (all on different channels to hold everyone’s interest!), and hard wood flooring. Kids and adults alike can take turns taking pictures on the many saddle stools throughout the restaurant, and whether you choose to sit in the main restaurant or in the patio outside of the 32-Degree-rooftop bar (with a strip of ice running the length of the bar, prompting the occasional snow ball fight between kids and the young at heart), you’re sure to feel at home at this family run, homey restaurant.
While mom or dad enjoy a tasting, perfectly chilled beverage while watching their personal-flatscreen TV at the booth, kids can play with a ball of raw pizza dough brought to the table upon request. Although they can’t make their own pie in the oven, they can play with the dough until their red-oak-fired pizza comes out of the elaborate wood-burning oven. All Urban Crust’s pizzas have no sugar added and come piled high with healthy, all-natural ingredients sourced from the pizza Mecca itself: Italy!
Customer favorites range from the classic pepperoni (with miniature pepperonis) to the delicious Shea’s Eastside, named after the owner and loaded with homemade tomato sauce, fire-roasted chicken, smoked mozzarella, caramelized onions and sun dried tomatoes. Other menu items include delectable calamari seasoned to perfection, buttered noodles for kiddos, Penne Rosse, Pasta Al Forno, and much more. This staff of exuberant and friendly waiters/waitresses/managers/chefs/etc., go out of their way to make it the best experience possible for all their customers. (Tip from the regulars: save room for the home-made gelato and ask Abraham to make a special coffee for you … his choice. Amazing!)
