The Great Lake Escape: Lantana Resort

Many of life’s greatest lessons can be learned while on the lake — like how a root beer float tastes better with an accidental splash of lake water, or how Texas sunsets seem bigger and brighter when viewed from the end of a dock. Young or old, children discover surprising sources of entertainment while playing on a lakeshore or riding along in a boat.

This entertainment isn’t far away, either. The Pilot Point-based lodging is located about 20 miles north of Denton, and is snug on the shoreline of Lake Ray Roberts, a 20-mile long freshwater lake with two scenic state parks.

Book a room at the Lantana Resort ($95 nightly rate) and take comfort in simple pleasures, like a magnificent view of the lake and an undisturbed tree line of cedar and live oaks. Or, book the Honeymoon Suite (for $249 per night), even if you’re vacationing with the kiddos. This dwelling offers its own kitchen and large private balcony. Regardless of your room, the point of a lake vacation is to be outside — exactly where this resort shines.

Water-sport lovers can take a motorboat out for a ski, wakeboard or tube run for a reasonable rental fee (many rental companies operate on Lake Ray Hubbard; the Lantana Resort recommends Extreme Watercraft Rentals). Anglers can rent a fishing pontoon boat and purchase supplies at either state park, Isle de Bois or Johnson Branch.

If you have your own boat and equipment, Lantana Resort has the parking and storage you’ll need, and a boat-launch ramp is available to guests at an adjacent marina. Additionally, the state parks offer large swimming areas, hike and bike trails, as well as canoe and paddle boat rentals.
Children will love hitting the trails with equine friends. Families may bring their own horses, which can be kept on-hand at the resort’s indoor/outdoor horse stalls, or rent a ride from the nearby Black Mustang Ranch. The ranch also provides tours through the 27 miles of wide, scenic equestrian trails that often showcase views of the lake.

After a day on the water or on the trails, your family will be ready for a good meal. The Lantana Resort’s Bronze Buffalo Grill will fill hungry bellies with customized meals or entrees from an extensive menu, which features many locally harvested seasonal items. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner at a price point of approximately $15 per meal.

When vacationing locally — with the desire of appreciating the beauty of Texas’ lakes and foliage — Lantana Resort is a great home base for lakeside activities and family summertime fun.
