Texas Land and Cattle Company

Vibe: Though it looks like a roadhouse and boasts “the coldest beer in Texas,” TXLC is not casual when it comes to generous portions of authentic Texas steakhouse fare. Come hungry and bring out-of-town guests who need a lesson in Texas Cuisine 101.

Why it's tot-friendly: TXLC is serious when it comes to steak, but its relaxed atmosphere makes it ideal for families and large groups. The kids’ menu offers everything from steak to mac and cheese, and the portions are large enough to feed an adult. A sundae or Oreo cookies can be added for less than a buck. The menu doubles as a coloring book, and our server brought hot sourdough bread to the table quickly, keeping our toddler busy and satisfied until our meal was brought out.

Be sure to try: You can’t go wrong with the Signature Smoked Sirloin — it’s flavorful and rich. Our waitress suggested a peppercorn sauce, which perfectly complimented the steak. The Chicken Fried Steak is a must, served with garlicky mashed potatoes. Be sure to save room for dessert; the Jack Daniel’s pie is a decadent treat the whole table will want to share.

Good to know: Changing tables are available in the restrooms.

Best times to go with kids: Come early at supper time so you don’t have to wait for a table — it gets crowded as the night wears on. Kids eat free on Saturdays from 11am-4pm.
