We all know the classic story of Robin Hood, who saves the day for those in need with his bow and arrow and green tights get-up. At the Texas Archery Academy (TXAA) in Plano, archery lessons are offered for ages 2 ½ and up. The facility, which bills itself as the only archery academy in Texas, opened its doors in August. TXAA also has youth leagues for kids looking to participate on a more competitive level.
Another destination for archery is Elm Fork Shooting Park in Dallas. Kids can take an introductory course on-site through the Texins Archery Club at the outdoor archery area, which boasts more than 40 acres. “All kids, regardless of their background, are the same when at the fire line. It’s about building skill not strength,” says Clint Montgomery, one of the executive directors at TXAA and a range officer of Texins Archery Club.
Classes at both sites are $10 per person. The cost for a yearly family membership is $120, which grants access to TXAA and Elm Fork Shooting Park.
