Looking for a new holiday tradition for your family? Bundle up and check out these local farms where you can find fresh Christmas trees—and maybe even cut down your own! You might have to drive a bit, but you’re sure to bring back beautiful family memories in addition to your super-fresh greenery.

Walls Family Farm

9am-5pm starting Nov. 27
What’s available: fresh trees and wreaths—Virginia pine, Leyland cypress, Eastern Red cedars and more; some pecans. Visitors can cut down their own tree (saws provided).
Fun stuff: Hayrides, concession area, campfire, Christmas music.
Cost: $6 per foot ($15 minimum); staff members will shake and wrap the tree. Cash or check only.

Kajin Farm

Opening day 9am-5:30pm Nov. 27. After that, from 9am-5:30pm every Sat-Sun; 12-5:30pm every Tue-Fri; closed Mon.
What’s available: Pre-cut Fraser firs and Virginia pines that you cut down yourself.
Fun stuff: Check out the farm’s gift shop, which includes ornaments, lights, tree stands and gift items. You can also enjoy Breakfast With the Elves on Sat mornings (check Web site for dates and times); $3 adults, free for children.
Cost: $5 per foot for Virginia pines; $10 per foot for Fraser firs.

Flower Mound Christmas Trees

Opening day Nov. 27. After that, 12-8pm Mon-Fri; 9am-8pm Sat-Sun. Through Dec. 25.
What’s available: Pre-cut fresh trees, including Douglas firs, Scotch pines, blue spruces and more. You can also have the tree “flocked” for a snowy look. Bring your tree stand and staffers will help trim the trunk to size.
Fun stuff: Hayrides, hay-bale maze, bounce houses and a kid-sized train. Free hot chocolate and cider on the weekends.
Cost: Prices vary by tree.

Elves Christmas Tree Farm

One hour and 20 minutes from Collin County

Opening day from 9am-5pm Nov. 27. After that, 3-5pm Mon-Fri; 10am-5pm Sat; 1-5pm Sun.
What’s available: Choose and cut down your own tree or choose from the farm’s selection of pre-cut trees. The farm’s varieties include Virginia pine, Fraser fir and Leyland cypress.
Fun stuff: Hayrides, cider and coffee, professional wood carver (weekends only), holiday wreaths made daily and more.
Cost: Each tree is individually priced. Choose-and-cut trees are $5 or more per foot. Trees are priced according to size and shape. Staff members will shake and net the tree.

Lone Star Pines

One hour east of Collin County

What’s available: Hop on a wagon and ride out to the farm’s field to choose and cut down your Virginia pine or Leyland cypress tree. The farm provides a handsaw and assistance. Fresh wreaths also available.
Fun stuff: Photos with Santa, hayrides, cider and coffee, gift shop with holiday gift items.
Cost: $6.75 per foot for self-cut trees (Virginia pines and Leyland cypress); $160-$45 for pre-cut trees.
