Non-Toxic Baby Products

Adding a baby to your family means making a whole new kind of shopping list. There’s a lot of stuff you need to buy (and some of it over and over again – looking at you, diapers), but some of that stuff may come with unwanted chemicals and toxins. So here’s a shortlist of products and brands that are safe for baby, all available in Dallas Fort Worth. For more information about avoiding toxins in baby products, check out “How to Avoid Toxins in Baby Products.”
Organic baby food is expensive, so make your own with a Beaba Babycook Pro, available at Babybliss. Babycook steams, blends and reheats in record time, so you can share any meal with your little one.
Bottles and nipples
Plastic is not your friend when it comes to bottles. Babybliss has a few brands of glass bottles with silicone nipples that are toxin-free and safe for baby, including WeeGo and thinkbaby.
Plastic is not your friend here, either. Go to the Nappy Shoppe in Plano for natural wooden toys, including magnetic blocks from Tegu. Learning Express in Snider Plaza also carries safe toys from brands like Melissa & Doug, including wooden beads for infants. And Neiman Marcus carries wooden toys from HABA that are safe and sustainable.
At their new location in Bedford, Babies Bottoms and More stocks toys from eco-kids and Tree Hopper Toys.
Shampoo, lotion, wipes, detergent
In 2012, Walgreens introduced a brand called Ology, with consumer products that are free of toxins and harmful chemicals. Ology’s offerings range from light bulbs to toothpaste, but we like their soaps, shampoos and detergents that are safe for baby.
Also try Burt’s Bees Baby Bee collection, with all natural products like diaper ointment, baby wipes and dusting powder; find the line locally at BuyBuy Baby or Target.
Another new-ish line we love is The Honest Company, founded by celeb mom of two Jessica Alba. Their non-toxic and sustainable baby products are available at Nordstrom and BuyBuy Baby.
Clothing and bedding
Using toxin-free detergent doesn’t do you any good if baby’s clothes have chemicals all their own (pajamas in particular can contain fire retardants). Thankfully, Burt’s Bees Baby also makes clothing, blankets, bedding and other textiles that are 100% organic – not bad for a lip balm brand.
Mattresses can hold dyes, chemicals and fire retardants. Visit The Hästens Store Dallas to find cotton and horsehair crib mattresses that are free of all the unwanted extras.
Or try the Nook Sleep Systems Pebble crib mattresses from $295, available at Babybliss and Wellness Baby. Each Pebble mattress is natural, chemical-free and textured to help baby get a better night’s sleep.
Cloth diapers from the Nappy Shoppe in Plano or Bear Bottom Diapers in Wylie are the best way to avoid the toxins found in disposable diapers. But if you’re not ready for that commitment, buy Seventh Generation disposable diapers from Target, Whole Foods or Sprouts.
