Mi Cocina

VIBE: At first glance, Mi Cocina seems a little too aloof to be family-friendly. The patio is much more relaxed and festive and is a great place to dine when the weather is warm. Mi Cocina is a D/FW tradition, having started in Highland Park in 1991. Word of mouth has it that Mi Cocina offers some of the finest Tex-Mex in the Metroplex – and the reputation seems well earned.

WHY IT'S TOT-FRIENDLY: Our host immediately brought a high chair to us as we were being seated, and chips and salsa soon followed, keeping our hungry toddler satisfied. Bianca Elena’s Menu (the kids’ meal) boasts a large variety of foods from tacos and burritos to quesadillas, served with beans and rice, at a reasonable price ($5.99).

BE SURE TO TRY: The Queso Blanco is a heavenly paring wtih the Mi Cocina chips and salsa ($4.95). The 50/50 fajitas easily fill two hungry adults ($14.95). The Rico Salad ($10.95) is a perennial house favorite.

GOOD TO KNOW: Both the men’s and women’s restrooms have clean changing tables.

BEST TIMES TO GO WITH KIDS: Try to hit Mi Cocina during weekend lunch, when the atmosphere is less business and more casual.
