Location: 700 N. Bonnie Brae St., Denton, near the intersection with Scripture Street.
Why it’s noteworthy: This playground has eight slides and climbing areas connected together like an obstacle course, presenting a fun challenge for kids. It also has a swingset with two big kid swings and two baby swings, a basketball court and a water fountain for cooling down after play.
Extras: McKenna Park sits on 18 acres with several park benches, covered pavilions and grills, making it a great spot for a family picnic. There are also many recycling bins and trash cans to keep the park clean.
Safety: This playground received a B* on the Safety Report Card. There are not separate play areas for different age groups, and spots of rust can be seen throughout the playground. Also, there is a water tower in the middle of the park with a fence around it that could be dangerous if kids try to climb it. As the playground is located on a hill next to a busy street, parents will need to keep their eyes out for cars.
