Lt. Russell Steindam Park in Plano

Location: 4501 Quincy Lane in northwest Plano, at the intersection of Quincy Lane and Reunion Drive, near Haun Elementary School.

What makes it noteworthy: Though the colors are faded from full sun exposure, the yellow and blue playground has multiple play sets and plenty of room for kids to run and play. One structure has five slides, a climbing tunnel and a built-in tic-tac-toe set. The other play set is more like four sets in one, with slides and climbing structures connected by monkey bars and bridges. Kids can make their way across the equipment like an obstacle course before taking a break on the swingset (though they may have to take turns; there are only two big-kid swings).

Extras: This neighborhood park has a gazebo, basketball court, soccer field, two baseball backstops and a few grills. Bring Fido along for a stroll on the 0.4-mile loop trail.

Safety: This playground received an A* on the Playground Safety Report Card. Though the play area is spacious, the equipment is not separated by age. Also watch your escape artists, as there’s no fence to separate the park from the street.
