The gold-star chore chart hanging on the side of the refrigerator just got a major upgrade. Enter the You Rule Chores App – the 21st century’s answer to getting your kids to do their chores. After watching his two boys zone out on their gaming apps and slough off household responsibilities, local dad Brian Linder (pictured left, with his sons) had an a-ha! moment. “I thought, if I could get them as focused on their chores as much as they are on games, I’d be in business. It hit me – let’s turn doing chores into a gaming app.” So this former Richards Group creative director entered the app galaxy and came back with You Rule Chores. Targeted for kids ages 5 to 11, You Rule mimics gaming apps with cool characters that climb levels, sound effects and a bit of competition. Parents can customize the chores for their family, and when the kids finish said chore they receive coins redeemable for prizes from a wish list. If your New Year’s resolution is to get your kids to unload the dishwasher – well, there’s an app for that.
