John M. Whisenant Park in McKinney

McKinney’s brand-new Whisenant Park playground, which opened in mid-November near Edris Childres Elliott Elementary, is the perfect spot for fun and safety, earning an A on DallasChild’s Safety Report Card.*

The park, which has separate playscapes for older and younger kids, also touts a trail system, swings, a pavilion and benches, and an open green space for sports.

The playscape for older children towers over the playground, with three levels of fun things to see and do. The middle level has three slides coming out from a central platform, while the top level has one enclosed slide and several clear-plastic portals that give kids a bird’s-eye view of the ground below. The playscape also offers its own rock wall with kid-sized hand- and footholds.

The younger kids’ playscape has three slides (including a fun twisty one) and a climbing structure.
This review was distributed to McKinney Parks and Recreation for further review and/or action.
