+ PART-TIME EDITOR
Our editorial team is looking for a part-time editor to join our team. This role will report to the managing editor and will be assisting her with editing copy for print and digital throughout the month. Content would range from listings of local events for families, front of book departments, back of book departments and articles for our website. Ability and willingness to write for the magazine and website are a plus.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting in the editing and proofing process after the magazines are designed
  • Fact-checking copy
  • Working with writers to refine their copy

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has previous professional experience editing for a publication
  • Knowledge of AP Style
  • Takes pride in accuracy and details
  • Is familiar with the Dallas-Fort Worth region
  • Is not afraid to talk on the phone

+ SENIOR EDITORIAL DESIGNER
We’re seeking a full-time in-house senior editorial designer to join our small, tight-knit creative team. With the creative director, whom this position will directly report to, the designer will be involved with brainstorming, planning visuals and designing editorial layouts for print issues, digital stories, emails, and occasionally marketing materials and event signage. The ability to contribute thoughtful, creative and interesting ideas in the planning and design process is a must. Photography skills and video editing is a huge plus, but not required. The designer will also have the opportunity to attend photo shoots when necessary.

A little bit about us: DFWChild is a 31-year-old independently-owned regional lifestyle media company whose products are targeted to women with children in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. We have several platforms that include: print, digital, social media and live events. With a staff of around 20, we’re a small business that offers our employees an opportunity to gain hands-on experience unlike bigger businesses. Responsibilities:
Concept and design layouts for FOB and BOB sections of the magazine
Assign out spot illustrations
Create images for the website and social platforms
Help concept and design occasional marketing and social imagery/designs
Work with editorial to create compelling visuals for stories
Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Expert in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator
B.A. in graphic design, communications design or related field
3+ years experience in editorial design

Our editorial team is looking for a freelance substantive editor to assist in editing our monthly print departments for all Child magazines, and other ancillaries.

Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including grammar and punctuation

Journalistic ethics are unparalleled
Ability to work with writers to implement changes to their copy
Ability to identify overall problems with the copy, work with writer to fix them, and ensuring the copy is written in the magazine’s voice and is written with the reader in mind.

We’re looking for local, talented wordsmiths to contribute their unique talents to our community of publications, and online too. We are looking for the right people to pitch ideas (specifically in Dallas, Fort Worth and Denton and Collin counties), write parenting pieces, profiles and features.
