Jimmy Porter Park in Carrollton

Named after a man who worked with Carrollton youth, Jimmy Porter Park is a place for the community to gather and play. The large park is easy to find on Sherwood Lane (off Josey Lane near Keller Springs Road) and features something for everyone: swings, playground, a tire swing, walking trail, basketball court, two baseball fields, picnic tables, grills and an outdoor pavilion. The park could use a clean-up crew, however. There was trash on and near the play space. It’s too bad there aren’t recycle bins available, since a notice reads that the play structure is made of 35,304 aluminum cans, 34,686 soup cans and 124 car tires.

The playground equipment is dated but kept in good condition. The park, however, lacks  signage listing rules and defining age-specific areas. While this park needs a spruce-up and cleaning, it is worth a visit.

This review was distributed to the City of Carrollton Parks and Recreation for further review and/or action.
