Tad Carpenter, the graphic designer behind everything from children’s books to concert posters for Radiohead, illustrates a miniature mercenary’s exploits in this new picture book. On a mission to wreak havoc around the house, the masked crusader blocks his grandmother’s kisses and snatches chocolate chip cookies, but he gets a dose of his own karate chop when his little brother pounces up from a pile of leaves. The bold colors throughout contrast with the boy’s head-to-toe black. With its rhyming action verbs and repetitive phrases, your preschooler will want to earn a spot on the ninja team.
