Friendship Park in Dallas

Location: 12700 Hornbeam Drive at the north end of Lake Highlands in Dallas. The park is north of Walnut Street, next to Forestridge Elementary School.

What makes it noteworthy: A colorful native plant garden greets you when you first arrive (stroll in, or park on Hornbeam Drive). At the playground area, a few trees provide dappled shade as kids explore the two play sets. Children ages 2–5 will love their built-in toys and small slide, while bigger kids can spy through a telescope and race down two slides. The play area also includes two regular swings and two for babies, plus bucket seats for spinning and spring-loaded toys for bouncing. Bring chalk to play Tic Tac Toe on the boards built in to the sidewalk.

Extras: A walking trail, plenty of open space, and playground-side benches and picnic tables make Friendship Park a great place for the whole family to hang out.

Safety: The playground was clean and well-maintained, contributing to an A* on the Playground Safety Report Card. But because the park is next to a school, the playground can get busy during peak times.
