Dallas Farmers Market has received a proclamation by Dallas’ Mayor Johnson to celebrate the second annual Watermelon Festival. Come take a bite out of summer and enjoy a sweet slice as the market kicks off National Farmers Market Week with a Texas-sized celebration.

The market kicks off National Farmers Market Week with a Texas-sized celebration. so come get a taste of about 10 varieties including this season’s heavy hitters: Sugar Babies, Truck Busters and Summer Gold.

Fun includes watermelon eating contests, watermelon bowling, seed spitting contests and classic family favorites will keep the celebration going all day. Enjoy live music, demos, family-friendly activities and tastings.

Visitors should also bring their market bag, as the weekend market will be in full swing. Farms, ranches, artisanal foods and artisan craft vendors will be in the mix.

Pet pageant: Dallas Farmers Market is seeking our very first Miss Texas Watermelon to be crowned at Dallas' Original Watermelon Festival by Ms. Texas State, Crystal White! This wouldn’t be Dallas if it wasn’t a pet pageant! Pets of all shapes and sizes are welcome to flaunt their watermelon wardrobe.

Winner will be decided by the following criteria: Sweetness, Color Boldness and Overall Watermelon-ness. Grand Prize receives a Dallas Farmers Market pet goodie bag, one truck-buster watermelon, watermelon crown from Ms. Texas State and title of first official Miss Texas Watermelon. Entry is free.
