Synopsis:
The most beloved tale of all time comes to life on the stage as only NTPA can do. Dorothy and her three friends trot delightfully and tunefully down that fabled road of yellow brick. After a tornado whisks her away to the magical land of Oz, young Dorothy Gale teams up with a Scarecrow, a Tin Woodsman and a Cowardly Lion to find the mighty Wizard of Oz, who can send her home.
Along the way, they must avoid the clutches of the Wicked Witch of the West, who is trying to steal the mysterious magic slippers that once belonged to her evil sister… but are now on Dorothy’s feet. Dorothy eventually learns just how magical friendship can be and how wonderful it can feel to go home again.
Note: Masks are required for all patrons entering NTPA facilities. View full performance safety protocols here: northtexasperformingarts.org/safety-protocols-performances-2020.
30th Birthday Celebration
North Texas Performing Arts celebrates its 30th anniversary with a celebration series of events throughout 2021, features eight shows that have been fan favorites at NTPA over the past three decades. Each event will celebrate significant milestones of the organization. The first in this series commemorates the founding of Plano Children’s Theatre with the NTPA - Plano production of The Wizard of Oz in honor of the very first show produced in 1991.
A commemorative ceremony will take place Saturday, February 27 at 6pm (just before the 7:15pm performance of Oz), recognizing NTPA founder Sara Akers together with founding board members President Rebecca Egelston Caso, Dick Anthony and Lanny Wren, and other members of the current NTPA organization culminating with a proclamation presented to NTPA by Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Anthony Ricciardelli.
