It’s not fair that one of the Lone Star State’s most beloved annual events – The Texas State Fair – is canceled this year. Fortunately, the legacy lives on at The Rustic. From Sept. 23 through Oct. 18, Dallasites can attend The Rustic’s It’s Not Fair State Fair Pop-Up, an all-out State Fair celebration full of traditional fair foods, contests, games, live music and more.
Similar to the State Fair’s Big Tex Choice Awards, It’s Not Fair State Fair will kick off with a tasting event with Dallas influencers on Sept. 23 to introduce its Fried Favorites Menu, emceed by Kyle Noonan, co-owner of FreeRange Concepts, and TV personality Courtney Kerr. Then, throughout the pop-up, fair fans who come dressed up will be entered into a “Tall Dark & Texan Costume Contest” with a chance to win a $50 gift card. Every Friday at 9:15 pm, the night’s headlining artist will pick and announce the lucky winners.
To add to the excitement, State Fair icon Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs will make an appearance on The Rustic’s front yard from 3–8pm on Sept. 23, Oct. 1 and 8. In addition to Fletcher’s visits, the popular restaurant, bar and live music venue is putting a State Fair twist on some of its signature menu items. Every day during the pop-up, guests can enjoy these innovative, fair-inspired bites on The Rustic’s Fried Favorites Menu:
-Fried Brisket Mac & Cheese with TEXAS HOT Ranch ($10.95)
-Wood-Grilled Hot Cheetos Dusted Elote ($6.95)
-Fried Pecan Turtle with Bourbon Whipped Cream ($8.95)
-Lone Star Draft served in It’s Not Fair Stadium Cup ($6)
Throughout the pop-up, The Rustic will have various animals on its front yard for socially distanced photo opportunities. The Rustic is also partnering with local business Game On! to provide safe games that follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for guests to participate in on Saturdays and Sundays during the pop-up.
The Rustic will host free live music every Thursday through Sunday during the pop-up. For updates on It’s Not Fair State Fair and to view the band lineup, follow The Rustic Dallas on Instagram.
As always, The Rustic is committed to the health and safety of its guests and team members, operating with the highest standards of food safety, cleanliness and health. In addition to following all capacity requirements and social distancing protocols, The Rustic has implemented enhanced cleaning and sanitation procedures. With its casual atmosphere, live musical acts and unique, full-service dining experience featuring farm-fresh, homestyle dishes with ingredients sourced from local farmers and a Texas-sized selection of wines, spirits and 20 beers on tap, The Rustic has carved a distinctive niche among Dallas, San Antonio and Houston restaurants.
The concept is the brainchild of Noonan, Josh Sepkowitz and Texas country artist Pat Green, whose love of the outdoors and live music helped bring The Rustic to life. The result is a fun and relaxing dining and concert experience from a phenomenal patio, all under the big Texas sky.
