Additional Information

Description

Visitors are invited to meet at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art for Sensory Explorations, when families can explore artworks depicting motion and movement in the galleries, enjoy interactive experiences, and get creative while making art.

Sensory Exploration is the Amon Carter Museum's free program for families with children of all ages who are on the autism spectrum. In partnership with Texas Christian University (F.A.C.E.S.) and University of North Texas Kristin Farmer Autism Center. While the needs of individuals with autism are the focus of this program, it is also intended to be fun for parents, siblings (of all ages), and other relatives.

This program is offered each April and October. Admission is free, but reservations are encouraged. Register online. For questions, email education@cartermuseum.org or call 817/989-5013. American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation may be provided during this event upon advance request.

If it’s your child’s first-ever visit to the Carter, download the museum’s social narrative and read together before you come.

In addition to reoccurring Sensory Explorations and Meet Up at the Museum, the Carter also has other access opportunities available on request for individuals and groups. Artful Moments is designed for visitors with dementia and their care partners, where visitors connect with artworks and share stories together in a social setting. During Close Encounters, visitors with low or no vision and their guests participate in a tour and use sensory tools, including raised-line drawings and 3D-printed copies of sculptures, to connect with artworks. Children or adults with cognitive and/or physical disabilities engage in multisensory activities and create a work of art during our Connect to Art program.
