Description
Visitors are invited to meet at the Amon Carter Museum of American Art (the Carter) for Meet Up at the Museum, a free sensory-friendly social event for neurodivergent adults and their guests, where visitors can explore artworks in the galleries and participate in interactive activities. While the needs of individuals with autism are the focus of this event, it is also fun for family and friends.
On Thursday, February 26, this evening is all about transit and travel. Explore methods of transportation (trains, cars, horses, and more) in the Carter’s collection and exhibitions during this sensory-friendly event for neurodivergent adults. Learn from special guests, create artwork to take home with you, and share your interests with new friends in the galleries as we look at artworks together.
This is a free event. Registration is encouraged but not required, and available starting January 1.
The Carter has a rich history of providing access events to all ages within the community. For more than 5 years, the Carter have offered events for people with low or no vision, sensory needs, and cognitive and/or physical needs through monthly and on-request programs. Meet Up at the Museum is another opportunity for the Carter to connect with adults of all ages on the autism spectrum.
In addition to reoccurring Sensory Explorations and Meet Up at the Museum, the Carter also has other access opportunities available on request for individuals and groups. Artful Moments is designed for visitors with dementia and their care partners, where visitors connect with artworks and share stories together in a social setting. During Close Encounters, visitors with low or no vision and their guests participate in a tour and use sensory tools, including raised-line drawings and 3D-printed copies of sculptures, to connect with artworks. Children or adults with cognitive and/or physical disabilities engage in multisensory activities and create a work of art during our Connect to Art program.
