Description

Experience the world premiere of Marina Rosenfeld's sound installation and live performance Ssalute, as part of the AURORA Biennial 2020–21. Catch this COVID-safe, drive-thru art experience featuring notable Dallas-based musicians Raquel Samayoa and Chris Doty, on view 7-10pm daily.

Rosenfeld's sound installation and live performance, titled Ssalute, is currently on view in the upper levels of Headington Companies’ LAZ parking garage (entrance at San Jacinto Street). The piece is accompanied by a publicly viewable billboard, located at 1408 S. Akard St., Dallas 75215.

Rosenfeld’s new work is oriented around the spectator as a driver or passenger, enclosed in the protective skin of their vehicle. Each visitor’s entry into the work is met by an invitation in the form of a personal salute offered by a live trumpet player, a role shared by notable Dallas-based musicians Freddie Jones and Raquel Samayoa.

As drivers ascend the labyrinthine architecture of the parking garage, this thickly amplified and augmented salutation follows them, echoing through the structure until they emerge onto the roof and the ambient sound of the city.

A speculative work in relation to both experience and infrastructure—substituting the vacant parking garage and its radical acoustic treatment for actual civic gathering space—Rosenfeld’s work is an enigmatic public proposal in time of widespread isolation.

Tickets for Ssalute are free and open to the public but there are a limited amount, so register today. Note: If you are unable to attend Ssalute after you have registered, email info@dallasaurora.com so your time slot can be freed for another visitor.
