Description

For the fifth year, Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm hosts Make MusicAllen on Monday, June 21 In honor of International Make Music Day, Make Music Allen celebrates all types of music, from Rock n’ Roll to Bach, and all levels of musicians, from amateurs to professionals.

The free celebration will feature dozens of local musicians, music lessons and interactive experiences for kids. Make Music Allen will engage the whole community, from the youngest musicians to the oldest.

Full schedule of the free events:

Children’s Percussion Junction
Kiddos can stop by the Blue House Too Art Space between 3–5pm to enjoy an interactive experience with a variety of fun percussion instruments. Thanks to Rhythm Band Instruments’ generous donation, children will get to play with their instrument kits. The activity will be led by percussionist Jaime Esposito.

Instrument Petting Zoo
Outside Blue House Too Art Space. Maybe not literally a petting zoo, but it will give children the opportunity to experience different instruments with The Allen Philharmonic Orchestra between 4–6pm.

Mass Appeals
These single-instrument gatherings offer a unique opportunity for players to meet up with other musicians and make music together. A free beginner lesson will be offered before select Mass Appeal events and is open to anyone who would like to attend.

-Bucket Drumming – The Village Green
Mini Lesson & Mass Appeal: 3:30–4:15pm. Join the bucket drumming event to see for yourself that you can really make music anywhere as long as you have a beat in your heart and sticks in your hand. Thanks to Vic Firth Company’s support, the first 20 participants, regardless of age or ability, will be handed a pair of Vic Firth sticks and invited to make music together.

-A Guitar Jam – The Village Green
4:30–5:15pm. Grab your guitar and hit the Green to rock alongside other players. Whether you’re a classical guitarist or love to shred, you’re welcome to join the jam sesh.

-Harmonica Lesson with Jim Longley and Kelly Cunningham – The Fireplace
Mini Lesson & Mass Appeal: 4:30–5:15 pm. Due to Hohner’s generosity, Hohner Blues Band harmonicas will be provided to aspiring players so they can continue to play and learn at home after Make Music Day is over, while supplies last.
