Description

Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm hosts Make Music Allen on June 21 to celebrate International Make Music Day. Even though social distancing measures will be in place, everyone will still have the opportunity to make music together.

The celebration will feature live musical performances from 3–8pm and virtual events all day such as free music lessons and more. To ensure the safety of both guests and performers, the live music portion has been scaled down and musical groups are limited to solos, duos, and trios. Whether rock-and-roll or Bach, all musical tastes and talents are welcome. Musicians can register to participate at makemusicday.org/allen/participate.

On the virtual side of things, guests can participate in events like Bash the Trash and Virtual Shower Singing. For a full list of events, visit makemusicday.org/allen.

Always wanted to learn to play an instrument? You’re in luck. For 12 hours on June 21, music teachers from around the world will be teaching individuals how to play 25 different instruments. If you already know the harmonica is your instrument of choice, Watters Creek will be handing out free Hohner harmonicas.

Make Music Day is not a typical music festival. It is open to anyone who wants to participate. Every kind of musician — young and old, amateur and professional, of every musical persuasion — are invited to sign up through the Watters Creek office to share their music with the public.

It is a free celebration of music around the world, which was launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique. Today, it is held on the same day [June 21] in more than 750 cities in 120 countries.
