Description
In honor of Juneteenth, enjoy free admission to Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum on Wednesday, June 19. Proclaimed a federal holiday in 2021, Juneteenth marks the day in 1865 when federal troops arrived in Galveston, Texas and informed residents of the end of the Civil War and the abolishment of slavery.
On this day, the museum is also offering:
- A special presentation: Civil Rights and the Craft Kids: A Conversation with Patricia Perez at 2pm.
- Gallery talks that will discuss the civil rights movement in English at noon and 3pm, and in Spanish at 11am and 2pm.
Complimentary screenings in the Cinemark Theater:
- The museum’s Funk Family Upstander Speaker Series featuring Opal Lee, the Grandmother of Juneteenth, at 11am, noon and 3pm.
- Documentary film Rising: The Hall of Negro Life at 1pm and 4pm
- Kid-friendly “Inspiration: An Upstander Puppet Shadow Theater” featuring African American Upstanders at 11am, noon and 1pm
- Arts and crafts activities will be available throughout the day
