Description
Help the City of Farmers Branch "light up the night" on Saturday, January 20 for the grand opening of JOYA, a one-of-a-kind, glow-in-the-dark playground! The mayor and city council have invited the public to attend the opening celebration.
Joya, which means "jewel" in Spanish, covers 18,000 square feet at Oran Good Park at the corner of Valley View Lane and Tom Field Road. The new playground has a 27-foot rope sphere with six levels for climbing, swings and slides, as well as an obstacle course, a zip line with interactive lights, a spin zone with LED lights and illuminated seating. The entire park will "come alive" at night with interactive features that glow, allowing kids and families to continue playing after sunset.
Joya is a part of the Oran Good Park Complex that includes baseball and softball fields, a turf soccer field, trails and Rawhide Creek.
The Farmers Branch City Council approved Joya in November 2021 and it has been mainly funded with $4 million from the Federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and $750,000 from a Texas Parks and Wildlife grant.
The event open at 6pm, with the lighting of the park at 6:30pm. The grand opening includes Joya swag giveaways, food trucks and continues until 9pm. The park closes at 10pm.
