Description
Homeschool Tuesday is an educational program designed to meet the needs of school-age children and to supplement the learning that happens at home. Most appropriate for elementary and middle school-aged students, our programs will offer families the opportunity to experience life on the Blackland Prairie in the time period from 1891-1936.
March 9: One-Room School House
School is in session! Experience a day in the life as a student in a One-Room School House. Attend school with a Victorian school teacher and learn about the academic pursuits and manners required of students who attended school on the Blackland Prairie. It’s not all work though. Enjoy outdoor recess with Victorian-era games and get to make and take home one of your own.
March 16: Laundry Day on the Farm
Without modern washing machines and dryers, what did it take to wash clothes on the farm? See a soap-making demonstration from a local artisan, participate in the process of fetching water and washing clothes. Learn about domestic tools, such as washers, ringers and irons, and how they evolved over time to make this big chore easier. See a laundry garden and take away a sample of homemade soap.
Gates open at 10am, at which time we invite students and their families to be active participants in the educational activities stationed throughout the farm. Stations shut down promptly at noon. Families are encouraged to stay and enjoy our grounds with time for a picnic lunch. Gates close at 2pm.
