Description
Go back in time to experience what farm life was like for Fern and Avery, the characters in E.B. White’s book Charlotte’s Web.
Students will learn how chores were performed on a late 19th-early 20th century farm, including laundry, plowing and planting a field, feeding the chickens, and milking Buttermilk the Cow (a mechanical milking machine).
You are welcome to bring a lunch and blanket and picnic until 1pm.
- Take a tour of the 1891 Wilson farmhouse, a Texas Historical site, and learn about the features that make it ideal for living on the Blackland Prairie.
- Storytime: Some Pig! by E.B. White
- Learn about important community jobs. The Blacksmith and Cooper will demo their skills.
- Meet the farm animals: pigs, goats, sheep, ducks, and Poncho the donkey.
- Draw your own farm plan inside our replica Schoolhouse.
- Take part in a scavenger hunt across the 4-acre farmstead to find elements from the story.
- Enjoy a wagon ride around the farm.
