Resist the temptation to sleep in on New Year’s Day and instead enlist your kids to join in the growing tradition of first day hikes, such as the one stepping off at 10am through Tandy Hills, 160 acres of prairie land east of downtown Fort Worth.
The seventh annual hike, called the Manly Men & Wild Women Hike, is open to all ages. Leashed dogs welcome. The goal is to hike border-to border, tracing the steel cable that defines the 160-acre boundary. Allow 1–1.5 hours for the hike. You'll see sections of the park not commonly seen and celebrate the 56th anniversary of the park.
Email Don Young at firstname.lastname@example.org to RSVP. Bring water, snack, camera, hiking boots and a hat. Note that the hike will be canceled in the event of rain.
