Description
The community is invited to explore and enjoy Fort Worth urban farms in November. North Texas Healthy Communities (NTHC) is planting some seeds in hopes of creating future farmers by inviting the public to experience how urban agriculture is creating a healthy community. The upcoming “Farm to Fort Worth” series offers free admission; this is the first of three events at local farms. Visitors can experience urban farming firsthand, gain tips for growing fruits and vegetables at home, and discover how we all can support local farmers in their efforts to enhance community health. Visitors can stop in at any – or all – of the urban farms during the scheduled times, with no fees or advance registration required.

Why? The research is clear. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables reduces the risk of chronic disease and can increase lifespan. Urban farms are a great source of fresh, local produce. They can give new life to vacant or abandoned land, create employment opportunities, and alleviate the need to rely on extended supply chains and distribution networks for fresh produce. Urban farms also provide spaces for people to connect and come together and create a sense of belonging.
