Celebrate Dwight Eisenhower’s birth in Denison, Texas, with a free musical performance, military vehicles, activities, and free Birthplace House tours.
The Eisenhower Birthplace State Historic Site will have a classic car show to highlight President Eisenhower’s role in establishing the interstate highway system. Eisenhower championed and signed the Interstate Highway System Act of 1956, which consists today of over 48,000 miles of highways and is named for Eisenhower: The Dwight D. Eisenhower National System of Interstate and Defense Highways. Visitors can vote for their favorite car and a Best of Show award will be given to the car with the most votes. The Red River MVPA will also be displaying several jeeps and other military vehicles.
The site staff will wish Eisenhower a happy birthday at 1pm, with a cake provided by the Hilton Garden Inn of Denison. A USO show of patriotic music will take place at 2pm, presented by Denison’s Shawnda Rains Entertainment Group. Visitors may want to bring their own chairs and blankets for this free music show on the lawn next to the Picnic Pavilion.
There will be free tours of the Eisenhower Birthplace house at 11:30am, 12:30pm, 1:30pm and 3:30pm. A craft area for families will also open during the event.
Free.
