Day Out With Thomas

All aboard for Day Out with Thomas, everyone’s favorite #1 blue engine, expected to return to historic downtown Grapevine, Texas for two weekends in 2026: October 9–11 & 16–18.

Day Out with Thomas is a fun-filled, family event that takes place at Heritage Railways across the country.  Every ticket includes an interactive train ride with a life-sized Thomas the Tank Engine as well as access to a full day of activities for all to enjoy. Families will be able to enjoy live entertainment, photo ops with Sir Topham Hatt, lawn games and stop by the pop-up gift shop for exclusive Thomas swag.

Watch a video preview of the fun here. The event is a fundraiser for the Museum of the American Railroad and the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. This event sells out quickly, so advance ticket purchase is recommended.

Thomas & Friends marks eight decades of entertaining children and families with its timeless railway adventures. Since its debut in 1945, the beloved franchise continues to captivate young fans with new and exciting adventures.

Tour highlights typically include:
-Friends and families will take a 25-minute interactive train ride featuring a talking Thomas the Tank Engine locomotive.
-Activities and entertainment featuring party activities in Celebration Station
-Photo opportunities throughout the event, including with Thomas himself.
-Live entertainment including live magic shows, storytelling and puppet shows.
-An activity sheet that will guide guests through the event experience highlighting the four key station stops to visit for a free giveaway
-Outdoor activities like play tables, arts & crafts, and more.
-Say hello to Sir Topham Hatt, Controller of the Railway
-Pop-up gift shop on-site with exclusive Thomas & Friends products only available at Day Out With Thomas
-Food and drinks available on-site for purchase
-Train ride runs about 25 minutes. Reserve your timed tickets. Site hours are 9:30am–5:30pm Fridays, 9:30am–6:30pm Saturdays, and 9:30am–6:30pm Sundays.

-This event is family-friendly and best suited to children ages 2–6. Set in historic downtown Grapevine, Day Out with Thomas is a favorite among parents, grandparents, and their little engineers! This event is based on the storybook character Thomas the Tank Engine, and hosted by the Museum of the American Railroad and the Grapevine Vintage Railroad. Proceeds benefit museum operations, educational programs, and historic rail preservation.
