Description

Friday, July 26, 6:30–8pm

Grab your refrigerator boxes and duct tape, it's time for the cardboard boat race. Teams of up to six people are challenged to get creative and construct a boat, raft, or some sort of floating watercraft made entirely of cardboard (taped seams and waterproofing are allowed), and navigate it across the pool.

Teams will consist of a captain, a first mate, and up to a four person crew. Judging will be based on design/creativity, team spirit and speed. There will even be a Titanic Award for the most dramatic sinking.

Past boat designs have ranged from pirate ships to viking vessels, to camouflaged swamp boats and Huck Finn style rafts, and even research vessel RRS Boaty McBoatface. Costumes and props are highly encouraged and just might help snag the Creative Crew Award. Additional awards include the Speedboat Award for the fastest boat, the Team Spirit Award, and the coveted Titanic Award for the most dramatic sinking.

If you want to participate, start building now using our Boat Building Basics guide. Entry fee is $15 per boat. Register at the event. Visit dallasaquatics.org for official boat building tips.
