Additional Information

To provide clean and safe drinking water for families in Kibera, Kenya, The Bucket Ministry is hosting a world-record-setting event to assemble 25,000 water filters at The Bucket Ministry World Headquarters on May 7. The Dallas-Fort Worth community is invited to join in this local effort that will make a global impact. Each filter assembled will provide an entire family with over 20 years of clean drinking water – equating to more than 1 million gallons of water.

The Sawyer PointONE™ filters use technology that was originally developed for kidney dialysis. Each filter allows water to enter through the tiny pores of the membrane, leaving behind harmful bacteria that can cause cholera, typhoid and E. coli. The filters fit buckets that carry five gallons of water and can last over 20 years. The level of filtration provided by the Sawyer PointONE™ filters exceeds EPA standards for drinking water in the United States.

According to the United Nations OHCHR, living conditions in the Kibera slums are shocking. The average monthly income is equivalent to $26 U.S. dollars per month, classifying the people as some of the poorest of the poor in the world. Living in squalor, the majority of residents are without sanitation, electricity and healthcare. Water is one of the most essential elements for survival – yet those in Kibera lack access to clean water.
