The legacy of the Bob Jones Nature Center land is rich and rooted in slavery, freedom and farmland. After the Civil War, the Bob Jones family purchased a 60-acre farm in Roanoke that they were sheepherders on. Over time, Bob and his wife, Almeady Chisum, and their ten children expanded the farm until they owned almost 2,000 acres, where the present-day nature center sits.
Come visit to learn the history of the nature center and the man it was named after. This event features the lecture, Bob Jones: His Life and Times, presented by a Jones family member and an interactive coffee grinding station in which attendees get to take home freshly ground coffee beans as a souvenir. Complimentary hot chocolate will also be served.
